Dave Holtrop, CPM, Principal

David Holtrop draws on more than 40 years of business experience to serve his clients. He has held several different leadership positions within industry and the non-profit sector, and enjoys sharing his expertise with those who share a passion for continuous improvement.

Dave enjoyed a 35 year career with Steelcase, the world’s leading supplier of office environments, an international corporation with over $2.5 billion in annual sales. During early years with the company, he was instrumental in creating scheduling systems prior to the advent of MRP software. Developing and implementing MRP systems were just a part of Dave’s responsibility while working in the purchasing field. Additional experience as a buyer and commodities manager provided him with the ability to drive significant change, realigning purchasing units to meet organizational goals and challenges.

More recently, David was the Sourcing leader for all Steelcase North American operations, including more than a dozen manufacturing facilities. Dave directed $600 million of spending with 390 suppliers across a wide variety of commodities. As a recognized leader in the purchasing and sourcing profession, he has strong understanding of the traditional purchasing functions such as supplier selection, negotiation, planning, and shop floor integration. Dave has also created and implemented supply chain segments for strategic benefit, and built an extensive network of partnerships for sourced product design and development.

As a certified purchasing manager, David has achieved lifetime member status with the National Association of Purchasing Managers (NAPM), and has been a featured speaker at national conferences and with various local chapters. He enjoys leading seminars, and his experience within the non-profit sector led to the formation of the consulting practice 6 years ago. The West Michigan Chapter of the American Red Cross, various community development organizations, and several local churches have all utilized Dave’s expertise.

After many successful years in industry, Dave has found it rewarding to help other organizations learn to use human resources for competitive advantage. Teaching leaders and teams to operate effectively by developing strategy, maintaining focus, and integrating measures has become his market niche. Clients have included a broad variety of industry and non-profits, including business startup ventures, and decades old manufacturers. He has custom-built programming to successfully transition each organization to high performance leadership. Durable goods manufacturing, distributing, food and beverage, commercial insurance, and sales agencies have all been significant clients.
